One of the men who framed or wrote the Philippine Constitution says the Senate Impeachment Court has no power to dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice-President Sara Duterte.
Beep beep, pro-Sara senator judges.
Reacting to a statement by impeachment court presiding officer Francs Escudero that senator-judges can simply vote on a motion to dismiss the impeachment charges once filed, Christian Monsod asked “Where did that power come from? There’s nothing here that gives them such as power as dismissal of the impeachment charges.”
“It was filed with them last Feb. 5. After four or five months, now they’re saying they can dismiss it.,” Monsod added. (This is the link for the news on which I had based this piece https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/27/senate-court-cannot-just-dismiss-impeach-raps-constitution-framer-1229)
This is how worse Sara’s impeachment case is fast turning into a circus, guys.
And just to remind everyone, Escudero had earlier ignored the provision in the Constitution which says once the Senate receives an imperachment complaint, trial should begin forthwith or immediately. Three former associate justices of the Supreme Court, 2 deans of different colleges of law, several groups from the legal profession and the business sector called on Escudero to commence with Sara’s trial but he conveniently ignored all of thgem.
So beware of anything coming from pro-Sara people or Sara herself, when it comes to her impeachment case. She’s been saying a lotolf things lately but not one legal expert or association has expressed support or agreement to her rantings. Verify anything and everything before you even consider believing her.
